FOURTH TRANSNATIONAL LEARNING ACTIVITY IN SPAIN
18/22 MARCH 2019
From March 18 to 22, 2019, the fourth and last Transnational Learning Activity of our "European Olympics" Project took place. Twenty families of our school welcomed students from secondary schools in Bulgaria, Portugal and Slovenia. It was a week of coexistence and learning for all, full of experiences undoubtedly indelible that were as follow:
Monday, March 18, 2019
We started the program of activities in our school, the IES Rodríguez Moñino with a welcome from our choir led by the music teacher María José de Vega, who had prepared songs with our students in the different languages that our project brings together. Also, the headmistress of our school, Belén Barroso, addressed teachers and students to welcome them.
After the welcome in our school, we went to the City Council of Badajoz, where the councillor for youth received us in the plenary hall
Later we made a tour with a guide through the old part of our city.
During the tour we were interviewed by the local press. The coordinator and some of the children had the opportunity to explain our project and give it, in this way, the visibility it deserves.

This day we visited the city of Mérida. In the Roman Museum we had the exceptional guide of Mrs. Victoriano Castro, cultural volunteer of the MNAR. His explanations about certain pieces of the museum brought the Roman world to all our students. Some of the boys from Spain who had already prepared the explanation of the pieces in advance with the teacher Ms. Ángela Castro they served as interpreter to our guide.
After the visit to the museum we made a tour in a tourist train through the city that allowed us to enjoy its monuments: the Roman Bridge, the Aqueduct of the Miracles, the crypt of Santa Eulalia…
Later we came in the Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre where we had time to make another group photograph
As usual in each of the Transnational Learning Activities, we made a route through significant natural sites of each of the countries that make up our association. We decided to show our Portuguese, Slovenian and Bulgarian friends the beauty of the Extremadura landscape of the Cornalvo Natural Park. There, accompanied by a park guide, we enjoyed a magnificent tour in full contact with nature.
The day ended with a healthy food workshop offered to participating teachers from different countries. They learned something more about our food products and the Mediterranean diet.
Wednesday 20 March
Like the previous Transnational Learning Activities, we dedicate one activity day to the celebration of School Olympic Games. To perform the event we chose a place outside the school, the park next to our river. It has sports facilities, offers a unique view of our Arab Alcazaba and the rest of the city and allowed us to take out our project from the school and provide it, in this way, with a greater visibility.
We divided the activities into three parts: A presentation of the Olympics with a small parade of flag bearers, Sports activities and a closing of the act to which we invited two renowned Olympic medalists from Extremadura: Juancho Pérez and Sonia Ayuso. The Mayor of the our city Francisco Javier Barroso, and our head teacher, Belén Barroso, were also present.
After the initial parade, some students from our school offered different performances.
After the inauguration ceremony, sports activities began. They were conducted by the students of the upper sports cycle TAFAT of the sports school CDS and aimed, above all, to encourage a day of fun among our students. Most of the activities were also aimed at raising awareness of our students about disability. Therefore, in some games, for example, participants had reduced visibility because of special glasses.
After the games, medals were handed out by the Olympic athletes Juancho Pérez and Sonia Ayuso and the mayor, who also addressed the audience with a few words as well as the headmistress of our school.
It was a very participative day in which also the students of the High Vocational Training of image and sound accompanied by their teacher, Francisco Javier Jiménez and Celia Guerra, made a practical session and helped us to make everything clear.
The media were also present, taking pictures of the event and interviewing the project coordinator and students from different countries. These are the links to access the reports published by different media about the event.

We devoted this day to carry out multi-adventure activities in Barcarrota, in the Ahijón reservoir with monitors from the Alcor Association.
The students did activities of orientation, kayak, paddle surf, zip lines and climbing. It was a fun-filled day in which we had the opportunity to show our landscapes by putting them in relation with our project because, as we planned from the beginning, in each country we have implemented different activities depending on their characteristics: in Slovenia we enjoyed from its snowy landscapes, in Bulgaria, from the majesty of its mountains, in Portugal, our students surfed and in Spain, we performed water activities.
Friday March 22th 2019
On the last day of the Transnational Activity, the students we hosted in Spain made presentations on their vision they had about Spain before visiting our country:
We also did an evaluation of the Activity with the Mentimiter application for students and teachers. The results can be consulted in the blog of our project.
We also distributed Certificates of Attendance.
And we took the opportunity to spend a good time together knowing that there were already a few hours before the farewell.
To finish, the students held a writing workshop on papyrus.
The teachers, meanwhile, finalized the Transnational Activity with a follow-up meeting of the project.
It was an intense week, full of new friendships and new experiences that surely will always remain in our memory. Thank you all for your commitment to the project and for your friendship.
